November 2009 - Groundbreaking Ceremony
On Tuesday, November 10th, 2009, Villa Maria Academy Lower School celebrated Founder's Day, a day that commemorates the establishment of the IHM Congregation. To mark this occasion, a groundbreaking for the new Student Transportation Center took place, highlighted with a parade of the entire student body. The center will facilitate both arrival and dismissal of the girls each school day and is the first phase of the academy campus improvements planned as part of their capital campaign, Building on Traditions: Today. Tomorrow. Together.
The celebration, attended by parents and other friends of the school, began with a school-wide parade led by the marching band of the academy’s brother school, St. Aloysius Academy of Bryn Mawr, and featured Miss Tammy Lynn Russell, renown baton twirler and instructor at Villa Maria Academy.
Past and present members of the Villa Maria Academy’s faculty and administration, including principal, Sister Mary Ellen Tennity IHM, were on hand to lead the attendees in prayer and to recount the story of the Sister, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary and Villa Maria Academy. Mr. Dan Dagit, the original architect of Villa Maria House of Studies and Academy, was also in attendance.
The capital campaign chairs, Mr. and Mrs. John Gattuso and Mrs. Leo Parsons, were in attendance, as were numerous members of the campaign leadership team. The past, present and future of Villa Maria Academy were represented by alumna Missy Pinola, her daughter and current student Emma Pinola, and future student Keira McHugh. The three placed a statue of St. Joseph into the ground, a tradition to help ensure the project is a safe and successful one.

September 2009 - School Year Begins
Welcome Back!
Ah, the familiar sights of the first day of school; making sure the uniform is perfect, first sight of the school as the car turns down the driveway, busses lined up to drop off students…… students greeted by a six foot giraffe named Taffy?? Yes, only at Villa Maria Academy could you find such a sight.
The faculty was out in force to greet all of the incoming students. What a wonderful sight it was for all of us to once again be together in this environment that is uniquely Villa Maria Academy. There are so many wonderful things going on this year, like our sport field renovation and the new entrance road which was completed and open for the first day of school! And inside the classrooms, there are new computers…new teachers…and new, brightly colored classrooms.
As they get out of their cars and buses, students are greeted by the familiar faces of their faculty. These photos show Villa students with Principal Sister Mary Ellen, Vice Principal Sister Kathleen, Mrs. Wible, and Father John Joseph.
